UJ2207 EX CAP NORD (Cargo Armato)<\/h3><\/div>
<\/p>\n

Originally launched in 1926 in France as the Islande<\/em>, this ocean-going deep-sea fishing boat underwent multiple transformations throughout her life\u2014eventually becoming a German submarine hunter during World War II.<\/p>\n

Renamed Cap Nord<\/em> in 1939, and later Ginette Le Borgne<\/em> by the French Navy in 1941, she was confiscated by the Germans in 1942 while docked in Marseille. Refitted for war and reclassified as UJ 2207<\/strong>, she became part of the UJ22 flotilla<\/strong>, alongside the Marcella<\/em> (UJ 2210), which also lies nearby on the seabed.<\/p>\n

On 19 November 1944<\/strong>, while escorting the steamer Dominant<\/em> from Genoa to La Spezia, UJ 2207 was struck by British torpedo boats<\/strong> in the Bay of Sestri Levante\u2014and was sent to the bottom of the sea.<\/p>\n

    The wreck now lies in navigation position<\/strong> on a sandy seabed at around 37 metres<\/strong>, split into two sections<\/strong> near the engine room. It remains one of the most fascinating dives in the area for both history lovers and wreck diving enthusiasts.<\/p>\n

    Dive Highlights<\/strong><\/h2>\n

    The descent begins along the descent line<\/strong>, which leads directly to the bow deck on starboard side<\/strong>. From here, you can explore the fore section, where the deck reveals a large opening into the wreck<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

    Divers can access the upper structure (the castle)<\/strong> via a narrow staircase<\/strong>, where remarkably, some original features such as toilets, shelving, and accommodation areas<\/strong> still remain. The deck above sits at around 32 metres<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

    Although the original machine guns<\/strong> on deck are no longer present, shelves and scattered bullets<\/strong> are still visible around the gun mounts, offering a sobering reminder of the ship\u2019s wartime past.<\/p>\n

    The aft section<\/strong> is detached from the main body and typically has reduced visibility<\/strong>, due to sediment being stirred up by the current. In between the two sections sits the boiler<\/strong>, still structurally recognisable.<\/p>\n

    The aft deck<\/strong> also features depth charge launchers (bomb catapults)<\/strong> and scattered ammunition<\/strong>, giving insight into the ship\u2019s role in anti-submarine warfare.<\/p>\n

    Marine Life & Photography<\/strong><\/h2>\n

    The wreck is home to a rich variety of marine life. Among the hull and debris, you may spot conger eels<\/strong>, octopuses<\/strong>, spiny lobsters<\/strong>, and lobsters<\/strong> sheltering in the shadows.<\/p>\n

    Photographers and macro enthusiasts will enjoy the presence of nudibranchs<\/strong>, while larger pelagic fish<\/strong> such as snapper, amberjack, and bonito<\/strong> often cruise in from the blue, drawn by the wreck\u2019s resident fish populations.<\/p>\n
