A Historic Dive into the Past<\/h2>\n

The Mohawk Deer<\/strong> was a Canadian merchant ship that met its fate off the coast of Cala degli Inglesi<\/strong> on November 6, 1967<\/strong>. Initially en route from Genoa to La Spezia<\/strong> for scrapping, the vessel was being towed by a tugboat when a sudden storm caused the tow cable to snap. With no control, the ship drifted into the rocky coastline of the Portofino Promontory<\/strong>, where it sank and became an iconic wreck site.<\/p>\n

After the 2018 storm<\/strong>, the wreck underwent significant structural changes, with the bow collapsing in on itself, the winch sustaining damage, and the HALL anchor<\/strong> partially embedded inside the hull. Today, the Mohawk Deer serves as an underwater time capsule<\/strong>, offering divers an extraordinary blend of marine life and historical significance.<\/p>\n

\ud83d\udd34 RED ROUTE (Up to -40m)<\/h2>\n

Descent and exploration:<\/strong><\/p>\n

    \n
  • After a pre-dive and bubble check<\/strong>, descend to -22 meters<\/strong>, where the wreck’s silhouette begins to emerge.<\/li>\n
  • Keeping the wall on the right<\/strong>, swim toward the collapsed bow<\/strong>, where the deformed winch wheels<\/strong> can be observed\u2014one of which has completely detached from its mount.<\/li>\n
  • Move outside the wreck<\/strong> to locate the massive HALL anchor<\/strong>, a signature element of large vessels.<\/li>\n
  • At -25 meters<\/strong>, enter the starboard hold<\/strong>, a large, open section allowing for easy and safe penetration.<\/li>\n
  • Descend further to -40 meters<\/strong>, exiting the hold to explore the starboard side<\/strong>, where sponges and red gorgonians thrive.<\/li>\n
  • At -30 meters<\/strong>, leave the main wreck to reach the detached control cabin section<\/strong>, now resting between -25m and -30m<\/strong>. The seabed is covered with debris, creating hiding spots for moray eels, conger eels, and groupers<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Return journey:<\/strong><\/p>\n

    • Begin ascent towards the plateau<\/strong> at -14 meters<\/strong>, where a triangular winch structure<\/strong> serves as a notable waypoint.<\/li>\n
    • Follow the left wall at -12 meters<\/strong>, keeping an eye out for the giant wrench<\/strong>, a peculiar relic among the rocks.<\/li>\n
    • As you approach the buoy, a massive boulder<\/strong> signals the nearing end of the dive. Before surfacing, a short passage at -10m<\/strong> offers a final scenic moment before completing the dive.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      Descent and exploration:<\/strong><\/p>\n

      • After the pre-dive check<\/strong>, descend along the chain<\/strong> to -18 meters<\/strong>, where the wreck\u2019s outline<\/strong> comes into view.<\/li>\n
      • Keeping the wall on the right<\/strong>, swim around the collapsed bow<\/strong> and observe the damaged winch<\/strong>, whose wheels are now misaligned.<\/li>\n
      • Move outside the wreck to see the imposing HALL anchor<\/strong>, a hallmark of large vessels.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

        Return journey:<\/strong><\/p>\n

        • Leaving the wreck behind, continue along the left wall<\/strong> where scattered wreck debris<\/strong> has become home to groupers, moray eels, and conger eels<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
        • At -14 meters<\/strong>, find the remains of a triangular winch structure<\/strong> before beginning the return.<\/li>\n
        • Following the right-side wall at -12 meters<\/strong>, locate the large wrench<\/strong> resting among the rocks.<\/li>\n
        • A massive boulder<\/strong> marks the final leg of the dive. Before surfacing, divers can pass through a narrow canyon-like passage at -10 meters<\/strong>, leading back to the left wall and concluding the experience.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
