This site offers three dive routes\u2014one reaching a maximum depth of 40 metres and two other shallower routes ideal for beginners\u2014making it <strong>a versatile spot for divers of all levels<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"649\" data-end=\"984\">The dive begins from a boat, with mooring available nearby. With excellent visibility and light to no current, Lion&#8217;s Head is best explored in calm sea conditions. Whether you&#8217;re looking for colourful macro life in crevices or hoping to <strong>spot pelagic predators in the blue<\/strong>, this dive promises an unforgettable underwater experience.<\/p>\n<h2 data-start=\"390\" data-end=\"420\">\ud83d\udd34 <strong data-start=\"393\" data-end=\"420\">RED ROUTE (up to -40 m)<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"422\" data-end=\"433\"><strong data-start=\"422\" data-end=\"433\">DESCENT<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"435\" data-end=\"698\">\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"435\" data-end=\"698\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"437\" data-end=\"698\">After completing the pre-dive check, we have two options: either <strong>descend near the mooring buoy<\/strong> to reach the anchor block at around <strong>-27 m<\/strong>, or f<strong>ollow the wall<\/strong>, taking a reference point at <strong>-6 m<\/strong> for the return, as the boat is moored slightly away from the headland.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"700\" data-end=\"712\"><strong data-start=\"700\" data-end=\"712\">OUTBOUND<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"714\" data-end=\"1510\">\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"714\" data-end=\"844\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"716\" data-end=\"844\">With the wall on our right, we\u2019ll swim south, first encountering <strong>a landslide area with large boulders<\/strong> stacked upon each other.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"845\" data-end=\"971\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"847\" data-end=\"971\">We\u2019ll light up the many cracks and crevices in search of <strong>lobsters, moray eels, forkbeards, and nudibranchs like sea slugs<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"972\" data-end=\"1096\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"974\" data-end=\"1096\">Keep an eye on the blue \u2013 it\u2019s common to see predators such as <strong>barracudas, amberjacks, dentex, and tuna<\/strong> passing through.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"1097\" data-end=\"1262\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1099\" data-end=\"1262\">After reaching a depth of <strong>-40 m<\/strong>, we\u2019ll begin to ascend until the wall ends, opening onto a sandy plateau at around<strong> -23 m<\/strong>, with a solitary boulder in front of us.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"1263\" data-end=\"1510\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1265\" data-end=\"1510\">We\u2019ll circle around it and reverse direction with the wall now on our left, gradually ascending until we reach<strong> -6 m<\/strong> and discover a small yet fascinating <strong>cave<\/strong>. Inside, a <strong>freshwater spring<\/strong> creates a <strong>halocline effect<\/strong> as it mixes with the saltwater.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1512\" data-end=\"1522\"><strong data-start=\"1512\" data-end=\"1522\">RETURN<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"1524\" data-end=\"1689\">\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"1524\" data-end=\"1689\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1526\" data-end=\"1689\">We\u2019ll continue swimming with the wall on our left at around<strong> -6\/7 m<\/strong>, descending again to <strong>-14 m<\/strong> to reach a passage between rocks near the bay, with the exit at <strong>-6 m<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1691\" data-end=\"1701\"><strong data-start=\"1691\" data-end=\"1701\">ASCENT<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"1703\" data-end=\"1886\">\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"1703\" data-end=\"1792\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1705\" data-end=\"1792\">After exiting through the rock passage, we\u2019ll perform a <strong>3-minute safety stop at -5 m<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"1793\" data-end=\"1886\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1795\" data-end=\"1886\">If visibility allows, we\u2019ll head towards the mooring buoy; if not, we\u2019ll exit via the wall.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 data-start=\"1888\" data-end=\"1920\">\ud83d\udfe2 <strong data-start=\"1891\" data-end=\"1920\">GREEN ROUTE (up to -18 m)<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1922\" data-end=\"1933\"><strong data-start=\"1922\" data-end=\"1933\">DESCENT<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"1935\" data-end=\"2243\">\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"1935\" data-end=\"2209\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1937\" data-end=\"2209\">After completing the pre-dive check, we have two options: either <strong>descend near the mooring buoy<\/strong> to reach <strong>-18 m<\/strong> before moving away, <strong>or descend along the wall<\/strong>, taking a reference point at around<strong> -6 m<\/strong> for the return, since the boat is moored slightly away from the headland.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"2210\" data-end=\"2243\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"2212\" data-end=\"2243\">We recommend the second option.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"2245\" data-end=\"2257\"><strong data-start=\"2245\" data-end=\"2257\">OUTBOUND<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"2259\" data-end=\"2687\">\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"2259\" data-end=\"2368\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"2261\" data-end=\"2368\">With the wall on our right, we\u2019ll swim following the contour of the headland at a maximum depth of <strong>-18 m<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"2369\" data-end=\"2485\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"2371\" data-end=\"2485\">The wall is rich in cracks and crevices. In the blue, it\u2019s easy to spot predators such as <strong>barracudas and dentex<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"2486\" data-end=\"2687\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"2488\" data-end=\"2687\">Once we reach the end of the long wall, we\u2019ll turn 180\u00b0, keeping it now on our left, and ascend to <strong>-6 m<\/strong> to visit the small but fascinating <strong>cave<\/strong> where a <strong>freshwater spring<\/strong> creates the <strong>halocline effect<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"2689\" data-end=\"2699\"><strong data-start=\"2689\" data-end=\"2699\">RETURN<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"2701\" data-end=\"2948\">\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"2701\" data-end=\"2764\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"2703\" data-end=\"2764\">It\u2019s time to make our way back to the bay where we started.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"2765\" data-end=\"2851\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"2767\" data-end=\"2851\">We\u2019ll continue swimming at around <strong>-6\/7<\/strong> m until the large bay opens up on our left.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"2852\" data-end=\"2948\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"2854\" data-end=\"2948\">We\u2019ll keep following the wall until we find the same reference point taken during the descent.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"2950\" data-end=\"2960\"><strong data-start=\"2950\" data-end=\"2960\">ASCENT<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"2962\" data-end=\"3126\">\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"2962\" data-end=\"3126\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"2964\" data-end=\"3126\">After the <strong>3-minute safety stop at -5 m<\/strong>, if visibility is poor, it\u2019s best not to try reaching the buoy but instead exit via the bay, staying close to the headland.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"3128\" data-end=\"3205\"><strong data-start=\"3128\" data-end=\"3165\">THE EAST SIDE (wall on your left)<\/strong> is instead characterised by a rockfall.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"3209\" data-end=\"3263\">This dive is truly beautiful when done at high tide.\u00a0Abundant fish and imposing boulders projecting outward create a truly impressive underwater environment. It&#8217;s ideal for <strong data-start=\"3385\" data-end=\"3406\">Open Water Divers<\/strong>, it\u2019s a great alternative dive site for those wanting to try a different route.<\/p>\n<h2 data-start=\"3488\" data-end=\"3520\">\ud83d\udfe2 <strong data-start=\"3491\" data-end=\"3520\">GREEN ROUTE (up to -18 m)<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"3522\" data-end=\"3533\"><strong data-start=\"3522\" data-end=\"3533\">DESCENT<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"3535\" data-end=\"3861\">\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"3535\" data-end=\"3629\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"3537\" data-end=\"3629\">We\u2019ll descend along the wall, identifying a reference point at around <strong>-6 m<\/strong> for the return.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"3630\" data-end=\"3701\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"3632\" data-end=\"3701\">After the pre-dive check, we\u2019ll be ready for <strong>a fantastic loop dive<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"3702\" data-end=\"3861\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"3704\" data-end=\"3861\">At <strong>-8 m<\/strong>, we\u2019ll continue descending with the wall behind us, heading south-east until we reach <strong>a large boulder at -18 m<\/strong>, home to numerous <strong>groupers and dentex<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"3863\" data-end=\"3875\"><strong data-start=\"3863\" data-end=\"3875\">OUTBOUND<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"3877\" data-end=\"4019\">\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"3877\" data-end=\"4019\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"3879\" data-end=\"4019\">We\u2019ll keep swimming with the wall on our left, among the rocks, lighting up the various crevices where we may spot <strong>moray eels and octopuses<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"4021\" data-end=\"4031\"><strong data-start=\"4021\" data-end=\"4031\">RETURN<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"4033\" data-end=\"4513\">\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"4033\" data-end=\"4194\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"4035\" data-end=\"4194\">After about 20 minutes, or once we\u2019ve reached 100 bar, we\u2019ll ascend with the wall now on our right, to <strong>-10 m<\/strong>, where we\u2019ll find huge boulders jutting outward.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"4195\" data-end=\"4316\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"4197\" data-end=\"4316\">You can even swim underneath some of them, as they\u2019re detached from the seabed \u2013 a fun and exciting part of the dive!<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"4317\" data-end=\"4513\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"4319\" data-end=\"4513\">At this depth, there\u2019s always an abundance of fish: <strong>groupers, dentex, sea bream, brown meagres, schools of salema and damselfish, and ornate wrasses<\/strong> dancing frantically across their rocky stage.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"4515\" data-end=\"4525\"><strong data-start=\"4515\" data-end=\"4525\">ASCENT<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"4527\" data-end=\"4716\">\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"4527\" data-end=\"4716\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"4529\" data-end=\"4716\">Once we\u2019ve reached the same reference point from our descent, we\u2019ll decide whether to exit there after our <strong>3-minute safety stop at -5 m<\/strong>, or head for the mooring buoy if visibility allows.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 data-start=\"4723\" data-end=\"5003\"><strong data-start=\"4723\" data-end=\"4774\">Dive at Lion\u2019s Head with Diving Group Portofino<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li data-start=\"4723\" data-end=\"5003\"><strong data-start=\"4777\" data-end=\"4790\">Location:<\/strong> Portofino Marine Protected Area<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"4723\" data-end=\"5003\"><strong data-start=\"4825\" data-end=\"4836\">Access:<\/strong> Boat dive<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"4723\" data-end=\"5003\"><strong data-start=\"4849\" data-end=\"4869\">Best conditions:<\/strong> No or light current, good visibility<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"4723\" data-end=\"5003\"><strong data-start=\"4909\" data-end=\"4919\">Depth:<\/strong> 18 m (Green Route) | 40 m (Red Route)<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"4723\" data-end=\"5003\"><strong data-start=\"4960\" data-end=\"4975\">Difficulty:<\/strong> From beginner to advanced<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"5005\" data-end=\"5084\"><strong data-start=\"5005\" data-end=\"5084\">If you love coral-rich walls, this is the dive for you!
