Dive into History: Dive into the Legacy of Gonzatti<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Gonzatti Plaque<\/strong> is a fascinating and historically significant dive site<\/strong>. This site takes its name from a marble plaque once cemented into the rock in memory of Dario Gonzatti, a true pioneer of scuba diving who lost his life in 1947. Though the plaque was swept away by the sea during the violent storm of 2018, the site still carries his legacy beneath the surface.<\/p>\n

Today, this evocative dive offers more than just history\u2014it\u2019s a journey through coral-covered walls, hidden passages lined with yellow cup corals<\/strong>, and rocky formations<\/strong> patrolled by brown groupers and dentex. With two route options\u2014one reaching 40 metres, the other ideal for beginners\u2014it\u2019s a moving and memorable experience for divers of all levels. The site is accessed by boat and is best dived in calm, clear conditions.<\/p>\n

\ud83d\udd34 RED ROUTE (down to -40 m)<\/strong><\/h2>\n

DESCENT<\/strong><\/p>\n

    After completing our pre-dive check, we\u2019ll be ready to descend. As the buoy is quite a distance from the promontory<\/strong>, if visibility is excellent, we can follow the chain visually during the descent. However, if visibility is poor, it will be much safer to descend along the wall and choose a reference point at -6 m<\/strong> for the return.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    OUTBOUND<\/strong><\/p>\n

      \n
    • \n

      Once we reach a depth of -22 m<\/strong> near the buoy\u2019s anchor block, we\u2019ll swim with the wall on our left until we find a coral-covered wall that drops to -40 m<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

    • \n

      Following this wall at around -36 m<\/strong>, we\u2019ll come across the entrance to a wide passage<\/strong>, with a ceiling covered in brilliant yellow Leptopsammia pruvoti<\/em> (cup coral<\/strong>).<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

    • \n

      In the crevices, we may spot the antennae of lobsters<\/strong> and shy forkbeards<\/strong> hidden in the shadows.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

    • \n

      After exiting at -30 m<\/strong>, we\u2019ll begin to ascend gently, swimming among scattered boulders and large brown groupers<\/strong> moving in and out of their dens.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

    • \n

      Continuing eastward with the wall still on our left, we\u2019ll eventually reach the anchor block of Raviolo Rock\u2019s\u00a0buoy at -17 m<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      RETURN<\/strong><\/p>\n

        \n

        Now it\u2019s time to head back towards the boat.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

      • \n

        We\u2019ll follow the contour of the wall with it on our right, swimming through schools of brown meagres, sea bream, damselfish<\/strong>, and even two European sea bass<\/strong> that often cruise through the upper water layers.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

        ASCENT<\/strong><\/p>\n

          Upon spotting the large boulders where we first descended, we\u2019ll pause for our 3-minute safety stop at -5 m<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

        • \n

          If we can\u2019t see the chain clearly, we\u2019ll safely exit the dive next to the wall.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

          \ud83d\udfe2 GREEN ROUTE (down to -18 m)<\/strong><\/h2>\n

          DESCENT<\/strong><\/p>\n

            Continuing eastward with the wall on our left, we\u2019ll arrive next to the anchor block of Raviolo Rock\u2019s buoy at -17 m<\/strong>, often surrounded by a school of dentex circling the chain.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

            RETURN<\/strong><\/p>\n

              It\u2019s time to return to the boat.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

            • \n

              We\u2019ll follow the wall back with it on our right, swimming through schools of brown meagres, sea bream, damselfish<\/strong>, and the two European sea bass<\/strong> that are often seen in the shallows.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
