Discover a Deep Wall Dive Rich in Colour and Marine Encounters<\/strong><\/h2>\n

On the western side of San Fruttuoso Bay<\/strong> lies one of the most dramatic and visually striking dive sites in the area<\/strong>, defined by a majestic underwater wall<\/strong> that rises from -50 metres up to -25 metres. This site offers a spectacular descent along towering gorgonians, vibrant red coral, sponges, and cup corals, creating an explosion of colour<\/strong> and texture that\u2019s a dream for underwater photographers and nature lovers<\/strong> alike.<\/p>\n

The seabed is dotted with Codium bursa<\/em>, the so-called \u201cgreen balls,\u201d while the cracks and crevices of the rocky wall are home to lobsters, moray eels, and conger eels\u2014often visible with the help of a torch. The dive offers both red and green route options, making it suitable for divers of different experience levels. Boats usually moor near the wall using a fixed buoy system, and the site is best enjoyed in calm conditions with good visibility. With its rich biodiversity<\/strong> and scenic beauty, it\u2019s an unforgettable dive within reach of San Fruttuoso\u2019s sheltered bay.<\/p>\n

\ud83d\udd34 RED ROUTE (down to -40 m)<\/strong><\/h2>\n

    After the pre-dive check, we\u2019ll be ready to descend and explore the stunning wall.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  • \n

    Once we reach the mooring block at -20 m<\/strong> inside the bay, we\u2019ll begin finning southward, gradually descending until we come across the long and vividly coloured wall, which will be on our right-hand side.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  • \n

    A torch is essential here<\/strong>, not only to bring out the vibrant colours but also to peer into the crevices and overhangs in search of marine residents such as conger eels, moray eels, lobsters, forkbeards, and countless species of nudibranchs<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  • \n

    Upon reaching the maximum depth of -40 m<\/strong>, we\u2019ll begin ascending along the wall. As the wall ends, it gives way to a sloping rockfall.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  • \n

    From this point, we\u2019ll start making our way back with the promontory on our left, swimming around a few large boulders located at around -18 m<\/strong> on a plateau of Posidonia seagrass<\/strong> that extends above the wall.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  • \n

    It\u2019s common to encounter hunting dentex<\/strong> here, especially given the abundance of damselfish and silversides in the area.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  • \n

    As we re-enter the bay, we\u2019ll continue until we spot\u2014on the sandy seabed scattered with rocks\u2014a large chain laid out along the bottom. This will guide us directly back to the mooring block.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    \ud83d\udfe2 GREEN ROUTE (down to -18 m)<\/strong><\/h2>\n

      After the pre-dive check, instead of descending along the chain, we\u2019ll surface fin close to the promontory.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

    • \n

      Once we reach a depth of -10 m<\/strong>, you\u2019ll be able to identify a large chain that will lead you back to the boat at the end of the dive.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

    • \n

      With the wall on your right, heading south, you\u2019ll arrive at the large plateau that lies above the beautiful wall (which unfortunately starts below -25 m, out of reach for this route).<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

    • \n

      Swimming among the many large boulders<\/strong> at a maximum depth of -18 m<\/strong>, you\u2019ll still enjoy a rewarding experience. The absence of the wall is more than made up for by the rich presence of brown groupers, dentex, meagres, sea bream, and salema<\/strong> grazing in the lush Posidonia<\/strong> meadows.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

      At the end of the plateau, a sloping rockfall signals it\u2019s time to begin the return journey.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

    • \n

      Reversing direction, and now with the wall on your left, we\u2019ll ascend to around -14 m<\/strong>, finning through scattered rocks as we make our way back into the bay where we started.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

      After spotting the chain on the sandy bottom and completing our 3-minute safety stop at -5 m<\/strong>, we\u2019ll surface near the boat.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
