Known for its <strong>vivid underwater canyon, colourful coral walls<\/strong>, and the hidden gem of a <strong>shrimp-covered cavern<\/strong>, this dive offers a thrilling mix of topography and marine life.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"587\" data-end=\"1050\">Divers can expect encounters with large brown groupers, dentex, and even passing sunfish in spring. The highlight of the red route is the <strong>namesake cave<\/strong>\u2014home to Parapandalus shrimps, crabs, lobsters, and vibrant red coral\u2014<strong>accessible only to those with a Cavern certification<\/strong>. With a combination of sandy slopes, rock formations, and frequent currents attracting hunting predators, Shrimps Cave is <strong>a dynamic and rewarding dive<\/strong> for both beginner and advanced divers.<\/p>\n<h2 data-start=\"438\" data-end=\"470\">\ud83d\udd34 <strong data-start=\"441\" data-end=\"470\">RED ROUTE (down to -40 m)<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul data-start=\"472\" data-end=\"2419\">\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"472\" data-end=\"549\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"474\" data-end=\"549\">After completing our pre-dive check, we\u2019ll descend near the mooring buoy.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"550\" data-end=\"804\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"552\" data-end=\"804\">Once we reach approximately <strong>-20 m<\/strong>, we\u2019ll begin finning out towards the open sea in a south-westerly direction, following a seabed covered in <strong data-start=\"693\" data-end=\"715\">Posidonia seagrass<\/strong> and small rocky outcrops\u2014ideal hiding spots for large <strong data-start=\"770\" data-end=\"788\">brown groupers<\/strong> and <strong data-start=\"793\" data-end=\"803\">dentex<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"806\" data-end=\"1029\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"808\" data-end=\"1029\">At <strong>-23 m<\/strong> we\u2019ll arrive at the edge of a drop-off where a <strong data-start=\"864\" data-end=\"884\">beautiful canyon<\/strong> opens up, its vertical wall glowing with vibrant colour. <strong>Red coral<\/strong> (<em data-start=\"953\" data-end=\"971\">Corallium rubrum<\/em>) can be found in every crack, alongside stunning sponges.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"1031\" data-end=\"1205\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1033\" data-end=\"1205\">If visibility is good, we\u2019ll continue gliding over the canyon until we reach the top of a <strong data-start=\"1123\" data-end=\"1137\">rocky dome<\/strong> (panettone) at <strong>-33 m<\/strong>, covered in breathtaking <strong data-start=\"1184\" data-end=\"1202\">gorgonian fans<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"1206\" data-end=\"1292\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1208\" data-end=\"1292\">From May to June, <strong data-start=\"1226\" data-end=\"1255\">ocean sunfish (Mola mola)<\/strong> are frequently spotted in this area.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"1294\" data-end=\"1493\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1296\" data-end=\"1493\">After a thorough exploration, we\u2019ll return to the wall, where at <strong>-38 m<\/strong> we\u2019ll find a wide crevice: <strong data-start=\"1394\" data-end=\"1410\">Shrimps Cave<\/strong>, so called because its walls are completely covered in <strong data-start=\"1466\" data-end=\"1490\">Parapandalus shrimps<\/strong>.\u00a0The cave is also home to crabs, lobsters, forkbeards, and spectacular red coral.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"1578\" data-end=\"1710\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1580\" data-end=\"1710\">Entry into this narrow cavity is <strong>permitted only for divers with a Cavern certification<\/strong>, and the exit is found at around -30 m.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"1712\" data-end=\"1849\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1714\" data-end=\"1849\">Once out of the cave, we\u2019ll ascend further to <strong>-18 m<\/strong> and, keeping the wall on our right, follow the rugged formation of Punta Chiappa.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"1850\" data-end=\"1977\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1852\" data-end=\"1977\">A moderate current is often present here, attracting large schools of fish\u2014particularly <strong data-start=\"1940\" data-end=\"1953\">barracuda<\/strong> and <strong data-start=\"1958\" data-end=\"1976\">hunting dentex<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"1979\" data-end=\"2160\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1981\" data-end=\"2160\">It\u2019s then time to reverse direction. With the wall now on our left, we\u2019ll continue ascending to <strong>-10 m<\/strong>, where the seabed changes abruptly, becoming <strong data-start=\"2128\" data-end=\"2157\">smooth and gently sloping<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"2161\" data-end=\"2343\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"2163\" data-end=\"2343\">At <strong>-6 m<\/strong>, we\u2019ll continue swimming back into the bay. In summer, the surface is often dotted with <strong data-start=\"2259\" data-end=\"2287\">swimmers and snorkellers<\/strong>, as Punta Chiappa is easily reached on foot or by boat.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"2345\" data-end=\"2419\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"2347\" data-end=\"2419\">After our <strong data-start=\"2357\" data-end=\"2389\">3-minute safety stop at -5 m<\/strong>, we\u2019ll surface near the boat.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 data-start=\"2421\" data-end=\"2455\">\ud83d\udfe2 <strong data-start=\"2424\" data-end=\"2455\">GREEN ROUTE (down to -18 m)<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul data-start=\"2457\" data-end=\"3646\">\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"2457\" data-end=\"2566\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"2459\" data-end=\"2566\">After completing our pre-dive check, rather than descending along the chain, we\u2019ll head over to the wall.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"2567\" data-end=\"2671\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"2569\" data-end=\"2671\">At <strong>-6 m<\/strong>, we\u2019ll identify a <strong data-start=\"2595\" data-end=\"2614\">reference point<\/strong> to use for returning to the boat at the end of the dive.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"2673\" data-end=\"2835\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"2675\" data-end=\"2835\">With the wall on our right, we\u2019ll begin finning in a south-westerly direction, gradually descending to a <strong>maximum depth of -18 m<\/strong>, following the rocky contours.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"2836\" data-end=\"3012\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"2838\" data-end=\"3012\">We\u2019ll know we\u2019ve reached the point when the <strong data-start=\"2882\" data-end=\"2902\">current picks up<\/strong>\u2014sometimes light, other times stronger\u2014where groups of <strong data-start=\"2957\" data-end=\"2996\">predators like dentex and barracuda<\/strong> tend to gather.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"3014\" data-end=\"3147\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"3016\" data-end=\"3147\">After observing these thrilling pelagic visitors, we\u2019ll begin our return with the wall on our left, gradually ascending to <strong>-10 m<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"3148\" data-end=\"3271\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"3150\" data-end=\"3271\">Here, we\u2019ll have the chance to spot and photograph <strong data-start=\"3201\" data-end=\"3228\">majestic brown groupers<\/strong> as they move gracefully between the rocks.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"\" data-start=\"3273\" data-end=\"3403\">\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"3275\" data-end=\"3403\">The seabed in this zone transforms into a <strong data-start=\"3317\" data-end=\"3351\">smooth, gently sloping incline<\/strong>.
