This program has been developed to train divers to safely conduct cave dives and to develop awareness, responsibility, and proper risk management.

The program can be conducted with either air or nitrox mixtures, but nitrox mixtures are only permitted for divers certified as IANTD EANx Diver or equivalent. For those holding a Recreational Trimix Diver certification, hyperoxic mixtures may be used.

COURSE OVERVIEW

The IANTD Cavern Diver course develops the student’s ability to dive in basic obstructed environments, making penetrations into caves where the exit light is visible, or where multiple exits are visible in the case of a cave with more than one accessible entrance.

The student’s self-control, psychomotor skills, and swimming abilities will be developed for navigating obstructed environments without stirring up sediment, and using the main line to maintain orientation towards the exit.

The IANTD Cavern Diver course will integrate all of these factors in a structured and logical manner, following a precise learning sequence, so that the diver can, through appropriate training, apply their knowledge within the limits of their training for safe cave and confined space dives.

At the end of the course, the International Association of Nitrox and Technical Divers will issue the IANTD Cavern Diver certification.
