Launched in 1918, it was an Italian armed cargo steamship of the Ilva of Genoa.
During the Second World War, in June 1943, she was hit and sunk by two torpedoes from a British submarine in front of Bonassola. 10 crew members and commander Giuseppe Mazzei died.
She lies at a depth of -55 meters. divided into two sections. The stern rests in the sand near the holds. Both the large propeller and the rudder blade are clearly visible.
On the deck stands the single-barreled cannon and the chains for the rudder control. In this part it is possible to penetrate into the room below the cannon where we can see the bullets and tools of the on-board workshop.
In the central part of the wreck you can see the trunk of the funnel, while on the sides it is possible to enter through the two smaller holds reaching the engine room from which you can glimpse other rooms including the kitchens.
As you go deeper, the wreck disappears into the mud, including the bow section.
Inside the hold you can meet conger eels, lobsters, lobsters.
The jewel anemone that embellishes the cannon and the exterior of the hull is beautiful.
All around the presence of numerous shoals of damselfish and silversides attract predators such as snapper, amberjack, bonito.
