Who is the Open Water Scuba Diver certification for?
This course is designed for those who wish to obtain a certification and are interested in exploring the underwater world.
Course prerequisites:
- Minimum age 18, or 15 with parental consent.
- From age 10 to 14, it is possible to take the Junior Open Water Scuba Diver Course.
The Open Water Scuba Diver course includes all the skills and knowledge necessary for open water dives, including:
- The aquatic environment: vision, light, sound, heat loss, tides, currents, waves, surge, etc.
- Physics and physiology: buoyancy, pressure, air-filled cavities, breathing compressed air, gas mixtures, etc.
- Selection, assembly, use, and maintenance of scuba diving equipment
- Dive planning
- Basic scuba skills, including mask use and adjustment, underwater swimming, buoyancy control, basic rescue techniques, and emergency procedures.
After completing the course, you will be able to:
- Conduct open-water dives (maximum depth -18 m) in conditions similar to those of the training sessions.
- Continue your training by enrolling in SDI’s Advanced Adventure Diver, Advanced Scuba Diver, and Specialty courses.
Minimum requirements for the SDI Open Water Scuba Diver Course:
- Demonstrate maturity and good judgement in dive planning and execution.
- Successfully complete the course tests.
- Complete all open water requirements safely and efficiently.
