GET READY TO DIVE TO -60 METERS

This course trains you for technical dives with decompression down to a depth of -60 meters.

WHAT IT INTRODUCES YOU TO:

  • Using hypoxic Trimix mixes (15/55)

  • Managing two decompression tanks (Nitrox 50 and O2)

  • Handling potential failures

Topics covered include dives to a depth of -60 meters and the work created by multiple decompression tanks

  • Decompression calculations with Ratio Deco

COURSE DURATION:

  • 4/5 days

HOW THE COURSE IS STRUCTURED:

  • At least 6 hours of theory

  • Minimum 6 dives, 4 with critical skills and 2 experience dives with Trimix

  • The last two dives will be at a maximum depth of -60 meters

  • Nitrox 50 and 100% oxygen mixes will be used for decompression, with a maximum of one hour of total decompression

  • The student-to-instructor ratio should not exceed 4:1 during water sessions

  • Water exercises will be video recorded and used for classroom debriefing

Cave and wreck dives are excluded. The instructor may reduce the number of students in special environmental conditions. Smoking is prohibited during UTD courses.

As you will be managing two decompression tanks, expect:

  • Increased physical workload

  • More team protocols to follow

  • More gas switches and emergency interventions

  • The “bonus” is the opportunity to explore deep environments far beyond recreational diving limits

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum age: 21 years

  • UTD Technical 1 certification or equivalent

  • UTD Rescue and Emergency Procedures certification or equivalent

  • Minimum 200 logged dives (at least 75 with twin tanks, 25 using a single phase and/or deco tank, and 25 dives deeper than -30 meters using Helitrox)

  • Students must have completed at least 25 personal training and acclimatization dives to prepare for the Technical 2 course

  • Swim at least 375 meters in under 14 minutes or at least 730 meters in 18 minutes with mask and fins

  • Swim 15 meters underwater or be able to cover at least 15 meters while air sharing to reach a donor

  • Be able to transport a fully equipped dive buddy on the surface for at least 10 minutes

  • Perform a rescue demonstration for a buddy simulating oxygen toxicity

To Begin:

  • Register through the online procedure

  • Complete the online lessons for the Technical 2 course

  • The Technical DVD is recommended

Required Equipment for the Tech 2 Course:

  • All equipment required for the Tech 1 course

  • Two S40 cylinders (5.7-liter aluminum) with harness and dedicated regulator

  • For the “Phase Cylinder” extension: an S80 cylinder (11.1-liter aluminum) with harness and dedicated regulator

  • A reel with 60 meters of line per team

Note: Before starting the course, participants must ensure they have the correct equipment. It is advisable to contact a UTD representative before purchasing or renting any equipment.

Optional Extensions:

  • Sidemount (if the course was conducted in Backmount configuration)

  • Backmount (if the course was conducted in Sidemount configuration)
